Knives Out
Knives Out is a 2019 American crime comedy-drama film who directed by Rian Johnson and Produced by Ram Bergman and Rian Johnson. The script was written by Rian Johnson, starring Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell and Christopher Plummer. Premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2019 and released in the United States on November 27, 2019. Knives Out received many positive reviews from critics.
Harlan Thrombey who was a famous mystery novel writer was found horribly dead in his own residence on his birthday party which attended by his five children, making everyone wonder what really happened? Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) was hired by an anonymous person to investigate Harlan’s death. He believed that Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) who is Harlan's daily nurse, was suspected of having a clue to Harlan's death.
Blanc immediately started his investigation by asking the five of Harlan’s children about what happened last night at Harlan's birthday party. He heard testimonies from all of Harlan's children, but he found an oddity in every testimony given. When he asked Marta's testimony, he found something unique in Marta, therefore he decided to ask Marta to accompany him during the investigation process because apart from that unique thing, she did not get anything from Harlan's death. Marta who’s the last person to see Harlan alive gets threats from someone she doesn't know and accuses Marta of being the one who caused Harlan's death. This makes Marta have to save herself from the accusations by trying to trick Blanc.
My thought about this film is amazing. It will blow your mind when you watch it, with many surprises that you didn't expect. Like what Blanc said in his dialog in this movie, "a doughnut hole in the doughnut hole." that's how the story of this film looks like.
The cinematography and the color grading of this film were good. When i see the film, the tone of the color was so contrasting, and i like it. The costumes are very good too. The vibes of this film are more like the country vibes, country road, quiet, many trees with vintage houses. It makes me want to go there. The actors are good too, they explore their roles, their accent and blend with their personalities.
This film on IMDB has a rating of 7,9. But for me, i dare to give this film 9,0. The plot twists inside this film are so mind-blowing, and it makes the viewers amazed, especially me. But the minus point of this film is the story running pretty slow and makes some viewers feel boring. Overall, i recommended this film so much, especially to those who like mystery movies, such as Murder on the Orient Express.
